As NASA (news
- web sites)'s Voyager 1 probe traveled at the edge of the solar
system on November 4, 2003, it carried one of the more intriguing
artifacts of the space age: a golden record with greetings for extraterrestrials.
The golden record includes audio salutations in 55 languages and an
eclectic 90 minute collection of music including Chuck Berry's 'Johnny
B. Goode' and Mozart's 'Magic Flute' and a Zairian Pygmy girls' initiation
song. The symbols seen on the record are designed to show Voyager's
point of origin and explain how the record is to be played.
